Everyone is getting excited about the Beijing Olympic opening ceremony containing “faked” bits.

Well, who remembers the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, when the Olympic flame was lit by a flaming arrow?

In this video you can see that the arrow flew far over the cauldron which was supposed to contain the flame; the cauldron was actually lit from inside. A bit of ‘fakery’ in large dramatic productions is to be expected. Get over it.

This story is distracting from the hidden tragedy of the Olympic games: China’s human rights record, including religious rights, freedom of speech, political freedom and prisoners rights.

Yes, China has made great strides towards Western liberalism. Yet they still have a long way to go, and we must continue pressing for change.

Every day when I walk to work these Falun Gong protesters are peacefully protesting outside the Chinese Embassy on Glenmore Street. The Intercity bus you can see is parked in front of their ususal spot; when I first saw it I wondered if the Chinese Embassy might have arranged for it to be parked there!

Their sign reads “Heaven destroy the Chinese Communist Party; Heaven bless China.” Good distinction there, I think.

Yes, the Chinese have filled every blog on the internet with The Great Chinese Internet Troll Army, The Great Chinese Internet Poser Navy and The Great Chinese Internet Flamer Air Force. But, The Planet Earth isn’t allowed to return the firepower to keep our jobs for ourselves and our children. China is a one way street, for the products we all manufacture that we are not allowed to sell there, and for the junk lives and abuse we all get back in return.

How’s that for The Great Chinese Capitalist Progress? That’s just like the way China has always done it, and now they’re getting away with the murder of us all!!

So Chinese exports are to blame for my “junk life” and “abuse”, not to mention “the murder of us all”.

Who knew?

It really is just China bashing. Those same people should rid their homes of everything Made in China and see how they get on.

The issue of the girl who was ‘swapped’ for a cuter one – and she WAS cuter, I’m afraid, is that Beauty is in the eyeys of the State. The fact that the state was responsible, not the Olympic committee, is the issue. Which a lot of people don’t seem to realise.
