PC provides a list of what he’s been watching recently, and I thought I’d take a moment and provide the same.
- Pan’s Labyrinth – creepy, beautiful, disturbing, brilliant.
- Stardust – hilarious Neil Gaiman fantasy, a modern update of The Princess Bride.
- Into The Blue – lots-of-fun diving action movie, with beautiful scenery (not to mention Jessica Alba). Not as dumb as your average action movie either.
- Rescue Dawn – slow in the middle, but watchable Vietnam era war movie.
- Atonement – beautiful, compelling, a bit unbalanced, pretty good though.
- The Golden Compass – great new fantasy movie, heaps of fun, I really enjoyed it. Set to be the new Lord of The Rings. (I just finished Philip Pullman’s Dark Materials trilogy – brilliant, compelling and breathtakingly audacious.)
- Shortbus – quirky New York film about sex and relationships post 9/11 – REALLY good. Definitely pushes free speech boundaries …
- Toy Story 2 – been on my watch-some-time list for a while. Surprisingly, its even better than the (quite good) original.
- The King of Kong – a surprisingly good documentary about two men vying for the highest score ever on Donkey Kong. This slightly pathetic hobby hides an epic tale of rivalry, backstabbing, rule-changing, and covert surveillance.
- Carnivale – an amazing, epic series about magic, good and evil in 1930s America. Its only flaw is being a bit slow at times. Highly recommended.
Remaining on my to-watch list are Babylon 5 (soon to score the first season from my girlfriends Dad) and The Prisoner.
