“Chocolate and toast,” Capitalism Bad; Tree Pretty
It’s part of a bigger project to blame people in poverty for making bad choices on an individual level, rather than seeing the structural issues which leave people so broken that they torture a three year-old. If we can tut-tut about the smoking, then we don’t have to look at what capitalism does to people.
What capitalism does to people? Seriously, did I miss something? How can anyone’s moral compass be so twisted that they consider free economic exchange more evil than torturing a defenseless child and condemning her to an agonising death? But then, after Nia Glassie’s mother described the funeral as a “happy” occasion, and after everyone in New Zealand was asked to accept collective guilt for the death, I don’t know why I’m so shocked.
