Minnesota police have a mystery on their hands. I’m happy to help them out.

Testicle surgery mystifies police

When conventional medical professionals refused to remove a 62-year-old local man’s testicles, the man hired other “professionals” to do the surgery. He would not tell officers who they were, saying he didn’t want to get them into trouble.

Police said a couple of weeks ago, two or three people operated on the man in his home. He was unconscious. When he woke up, his testicles were gone. So were his “professionals.”

It looks to me like this man has Skoptic Syndrome, which I have written about previously. This is where men seek to have their testicles removed for psychological reasons. After the slightly-botched surgery, done by untrained ‘cutters’, his daughter called the cops. Now the man has his cover story – “chronic pain” – splashed across the ‘odd spot’ column in newspapers worldwide.

I think it would be far better to allow professional body modification for persons of sound mind, rather than have these people resort to untrained cutters (with no anaesthetic!) simply because ordinary doctors aren’t open-minded enough to do it safely. Just as in the libertarian drug argument, it’s their body, so they can do what they like with it.

So that’s it, Minnesota police: the simple matter of a skoptic castration gone wrong. Case closed!

Luke,

You may well want to (if you haven’t already) drop a line or email to the MPD. No doubt they’ve not even considered this possibility. It sounds ridiculous but I think you’d find detectives a bit more open minded (and realistic) than the average Joe.

An fascinating look at an unusual psychological affliction, by the way.

Subadei, I have written the St Paul Police an email.

It looks like at least the local newspapers have figured out what’s going on, though.
