For this edition of Linkage I have a roundup of excellent posts from the smaller blogs in the World section of my blogroll, inspired by Hidden Unities’ “Simply The Best” and Strategist’s “Snapshots,” etc.
- First up is Eddie at Hidden Unities, with posts on child soldiers – Children at War Part I, Part II, and Part III – and some speculation about Christian mercenaries/volunteers operating to protect African Christians in future conflicts.
- Adam at Simulated Laughter wrote an article entitled “Gangs, Terrorists and Trade” which is well worth reading, and also discussed conspiracy theories.
- The Strategist has many good posts to choose from, but I would highlight the category “Heroism”. Acts of heroism receive little attention these days – a Medal of Honor or a Victoria Cross can be awarded with practically no media coverage. We should not let true heroes like Charles Upham V.C. or Stratford’s Colonel William Malone be forgotten.
- MountainRunner on walling off sections of Baghdad – “Another brick in the wall.” Also, a new suggestion for renaming the War on Terror.
- Soob posted a short video which looks at the thriving gun markets of Pakistan, beyond the Khyber Pass. It has some absolutely classic lines, like “These people have no tongues… they make guns with their bare hands… you can’t beat them!” and “He was laughed”. Why does that amuse me so much? Also check out Subadei’s posts on Online 5GW and Venezuela’s oil dependence.
- Shlok is heading off to India to research attacks on rail networks, something that I’ve discussed before. Sounds like a fascinating project.

Heh WACK-A-MOLE.
Also, that gun market video is both interesting and hilarious. I was laughed!
