Is Trieste known as the 'Second Stanza' of the Anzacs. Gallipoli is known as the 'First Stanza'? Where in New Zealand did the new Zealand soldiers train for 'the Road to Trieste'? - was it at Blenheim (in New Zealand?)

I am from Australia. Could someone please contact me with answers to these questions -

1. Did all the New Zealand Anzacs depart from WELLINGTON in the ships, (bound first for Albany - in Australia - and then on to Gallipoli?

2. The First Stanza of the Anzacs is Gallipoli. The Second Stanza is Trieste (a Second World War campaign.)
Only New Zealanders liberated Trieste. Does anyone know where they trained for this in New Zealand (I believe it was at a secret training camp, in Blenheim.)

Strategist: the service took place at the Cenotaph and the War Memorial Hall, but a contingent from Malone's old regiment always placed wreaths at the Malone gate, if I recall correctly. Stratford has several other war memorials, but I think the Malone gate is the only one in New Zealand dedicated to a single soldier, which shows you how much he was respected by his men.

That's been one of the great features of Anzac Day in NZ - that young people, from Cadets, Scouts, Guides, take part in the services as well.

In Stratford did the services take place at the memorial to Lt. Col Malone? Every time I've passed through Stratford I've admired that memorial and the thought that went into it.

Talking about tradition, it's great to see that the army continue to wear the lemon squeezer hats - which Malone brought in for the Wellington Battalion in 1914, and which quickly became the headgear for the NZ Division - and have reintroduced the mounted rifles broad-brimmed hat (from WW1 also).

Thanks, dude. Good to know that my blogging skills are improving over time!

Strategist: I expected the same of you :-) I started attending Anzac services, though not at dawn, when I was a cadet in the ATC in Stratford (48 Sqn.). I would march in the parade and sometimes participate in the cenotaph guard, which was a real honour.
