How is it unjust? Stupid question:

Jus in Bellum

1. It was not the last resort- US cut short negotiations for gung-ho, cathartic bombing raids.

2. Was not conducted with a probability of success- no long-term plans, ridiculous 'intel' regarding on-the-ground situation. Typical inter-agency rivalry resulting in complete fuck up.

Jus in Bello.

Distinction- typical US 'post heroic' high altitude bombing, trading low US casualties for high collateral damage. (forget about military necessity)

Finally, do you think NZ is safer now that Afghanistan has been occupied for six years? Mission accomplished over there, eh? Job well done? Notch another Western triumph up?

Lets give Iran a going over, I am sure with the deft American touch it will work out just dandy. End of history.

Unbelievable.

How is it unjust? How can you possibly say that Afghanistan poses no problems for NZ? The Taliban are "relatively benign"? Unbelievable.

I'm really glad to know that our country is sending off it's troops to fight in an unjust war in a country we have no problem with, and providing intelligence which kills relatively benign people, and the only reason is so the government gets trade deals with the 'States.

I'm glad that you mentioned the LRDG. Not a lot of NZers know that New Zealanders were the first and most prominent members of the group. Good skills in vehicle mechanics and navigation. As you say, the LRDG's role was very similar to that of the NZSAS today.
