Thanks again for the add.

The FP story was interesting, especially considering that the end of Russian air superiority in Afghanistan (due to Stingers) was what partly accounted for their loss.

I liked the Degree Confluence Project, but bags not getting Waziristan.

As a military history fan I’ve found an interesting use for Google maps – viewing old battlefields from the air. (I’m sure a lot of other people are doing this as well.) Too many histories lack good maps, which are essential for understanding the ebb and flow of a battle or campaign – perhaps a cost-cutting measure on the publisher’s part. Anyway, Google maps is a good substitute.

Thanks also for the mention in dispatches.

Agree with both comments.

When I lived in Taranaki I spent some time exploring the old 19th century battlefields – many of the earthworks are still intact. Google Maps would have been really helpful.

Aw shucks. Thanks! (And I’d love to see that Snow Crash/Neuromancer discussion on Simulated Laughter, by the way. Drink an espresso and get to it man!)

Will do, Sarah. I won’t let down a fellow sci-fi geek in need.

A Snow Crash/Neuromancer discussion? Wow. I’d better go read Snow Crash. OK, now I’ve lost all my geek cred…

BTW – Hi Sarah! Maybe we’ll see you in Wellington sometime :-)

If you’ve lost it, I have confidence you’ll easily recover it.

I guarantee that after you finish “Snow Crash” you’ll have no doubts about your geekdom. But, man what an effing great book. Got me through a summer working at my local small-town pet store anyway…

And it’s T-minus twenty-eight days until I’m Wellington-bound. Holla. (I’ve noticed most of the better bloggers are Welly-based – perhaps it’ll rub off on me? LOL.)

Thank you for the gracious addition to your blogroll. If only the US Navy weren’t so intent on denying me blogging time by banning reading or writing blogs….

Thanks Eddie – and good luck.
