Brave New War by John Robb

I’ve just pre-ordered a copy of John Robb’s Brave New War. I’ve been reading his blog, Global Guerrillas, since 2004 – it introduced me to a huge range of concepts from 4GW to systems disruption, black swans, cascading failure and netwar.

Here’s the blurb:

In Brave New War, controversial terrorism expert John Robb argues that the shift from state-against-state conflicts to wars against small, ad-hoc bands of like-minded insurgents will lead to a world with as many tiny armies as there are causes to fight for. Our new enemy will be looking for gaps in the system where a small, cheap action–on an oil pipeline or the power grid–will generate a huge return…
John Robb (Boston, MA) is a former U.S. counterterrorism operation planner and commander who now advises corporations on the future of terrorism, infrastructure, and markets. His writings on war have appeared in the New York Times and Fast Company.

In completely unrelated news, Al Qaeda in Saudi Arabia called for attacks on US oil suppliers.

Targeting oil interests includes production wells, export pipelines, oil terminals and tankers and that can reduce U.S. oil inventory, forcing it to take decisions it has been avoiding for a long time and confuse and strangle its economy…

One Response to “Brave New War”

Strangely enough, there’s another famous John Robb who appears to be a ex-punk guitarist and a “pop pundit.”
