Privately-owned National Parks are a good idea. They should be privatised to Conservation organisations so they can do a better job of protecting our parks.

People who do buy land for conservation purposes are the people who really DO care for the enviornment. If the current environmental movement did, they'd put their money where their mouth is and buy the land. Is it that hard?

Thanks, Callum. Did you see my earlier post about Fiordland National Park? I link to a couple of South American projects which are basically privately-owned national parks.

Some good examples of the free market applied to endangered animals are crocodile farming in Australia (egg harvesting provides an incentive for landowners to preserve croc habitat) and sea-turtle farming for shells.

Excellent post. I've always believed that property rights are the best protection for the ocean's creatures and the environment as a whole.

One of the good things about the privatization of sharks is that the sharks have value; therefore it would be in the owner's best interest to keep numbers up and to keep the shark healthy, so it can be sold at a higher profit.
