So the fourth Fijian coup in 19 years may be about to happen:
“This government will be changed. If (Qarase) doesn’t want to resign, we will look for ways to effect his resignation,” a uniformed Bainimarama told Fiji Television. [. . . ]
He refused to say how it would be achieved and added cryptically: “Nukulau is empty, it can be a nice place to relax and ponder things over.” Nukulau is a prison island off Suva which houses 2000 coup front man George Speight.
What could Bainimarama mean by that? Wikipedia: Nukulau and Wikipedia: George Speight.
It sounds both cryptic and ominous. Does he want Laisenia Qarase to join Speight on Nukulau? Or is he hinting at a role for Speight in Bainimarama’s own seizure of power?
