From the front page of Wikipedia: Anti-government protests in Budapest turn violent, after Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány of Hungary admits his party lied to win an election.

New Zealand Prime Minister Helen Clark stole $800,000 of public money to win an election and is currently denying that it was illegal and revealing dirt about opposition politicians to deflect attention from the case. I don’t know about you, but stealing is way worse than lying in my book.

I can’t wait for the anti-government protests. :-)

One Response to “Parallels?”

Great post!

I think I will do a more indepth analysis about the threat to legitimacy posed by high-level corruption. Tonga, Thailand and Hungary are topical examples. In short, I think Chris Trotter’s fears may come true – but under a Labour government, not a National one.
