From Youtube, this incredible video shows an intense firefight ensuing after an ambush against Canadian soldiers in Afghanistan. Apparently some Canadians still harbour the delusion that their troops are “peacekeepers” and aren’t actually fighting a war… they might change their minds if they saw the video.

Hat tip: Winds of Change, although I emphatically disagree with the criticism of freedom of speech in that post. Preaching radical Islam is not the equivalent of “shouting fire in a crowded theater,” nor was speaking out against conscription in the Great War, which that phrase originally referred to. Bad ideas can be defeated by better ones, but only if you allow the free exchange of ideas in the first place.

The video itself shows how insurgents can be defeated tactically by courageous, highly trained and well-equipped troops, especially when the enemy can’t shoot straight. However the cry from one of the Canadians, “I can’t believe they’re not dead yet!” seems to describe the whole war in Afghanistan… and it probably echoes the words of foreign soldiers in Afghanistan as long as wars have been fought there.

One Response to “Ambush in Afghanistan”

It’s spooky watching a firefight when you know it’s real. Too close to paintball for my liking – and they seem very calm considering they’re being shot at!

It’s also amazing how little you can see of the enemy. I don’t think I spotted them the whole vid.

It’s no wonder soldiers can have trouble relating to people who “weren’t there,” how could anyone understand what it’s like to be living with frequent firefights and IEDs?
